Sustainability
The issue of sustainability is also becoming increasingly important when it comes to travel. Reducing the ecological footprint is not enough. The aim is to consistently expand the concept of sustainability and achieve a symbiosis between ecology, economy and social issues. At Schützenhof Jever, we are aware of our ecological responsibility. For example, we make sure that mainly organic products from the region are used in the kitchen and that water consumption as well as the amount of chemicals necessary for hygiene are reduced. But sustainability also has something to do with dealing with people; all too often today, people are just cost centers on companies’ balance sheets. Not with us: We are proud of our employees, who have been loyal to us for years and make our company what it is.
We are pleased to announce that our hotel has been awarded the GreenSign***, the sustainability certificate of the hotel industry. As a GreenSign certified hotel, we meet the highest quality requirements for sustainable business.
Electricity and heat from own hand
To make us more energy independent, we have built our own combined heat and power plant. This means that all areas of the hotel are supplied with the self-produced heat and electricity.
For us, this is an important step towardsCO2-neutral heating.
Certifications
The Schützenhof Jever not only focuses on sustainability and quality, but is also convinced that together you can achieve more. In this respect, we are pleased with our certifications.
Working together for more sustainability
The Schützenhof Jever is part of the network “Jeverländer Speisenkammer” founded in 2018, an association of farmers, vegetable growers, butchers and restaurateurs in the Jeverland region who are committed to the production, use and marketing of food from and in the region. Only products of regional production are used for the dishes listed on this menu.
The Schützenhof Jever is part of the development company JadeBay, which was founded in 2009. To this end, the municipalities of Wilhelmshaven, Friesland, Wesermarsch and Wittmund have come together to develop and implement joint strategies for the economic development of the region. For us, too, this is a milestone in the process of inter-municipal cooperation to better position the region together.
Reviews
Satisfied guests make us happy. Because our work, which we do with great enthusiasm, is obviously seen and appreciated. This recognition is the greatest motivation for our lived Frisian hospitality.
“The food is delicious, the breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired. We had a wonderful weekend and felt very comfortable at the hotel. Keep up the good work, dear hotel team!”

History
The Schützenhof Jever, which in its early days was called Wirtshaus Buskohl, has a long and eventful history. It was once a simple inn, called “Buskohl” because of its location, after all, it was in the middle of the greenery, not far from an avenue. In 1797 the preacher Magister Braundorf bought the house. From 1817-33 it was one of the so-called border customs houses, although it was closer to Jever than to the East Frisian border. In 1859, the Jever shooting club bought the estate, which had by then been declared the “Herrschaftliches Gut Buskohl”. During the Second World War the inn was occupied by the English and the Danes.
A house with history
Jever’s largest meeting place, with its large (480 seats) and small hall (100 seats), has always been a popular venue for a wide variety of events: not only shooting parties, but also glittering ball nights, gala events, Maibock tapping, shooting parties, exhibitions, fairs, concerts and party meetings were held there.
In 2000, Stephan Eden took over the pub from the shooting club and returned the inn, which had been renamed “Hotel Marienstadt” under its former owners in 1996, to its old, original name. In 2001, the hotel-restaurant “Lemon Grass” was added. Numerous modernizations lifted the house into the hotel category “3 stars plus”, and in 2012 Stephan Eden was awarded the Entrepreneur Award.
Today, the company employs about 50 people, there are 103 rooms with 218 beds.
